Featuring gothic architecture and dirt-filled alleyways, the paintings also show the busy Gotham Square, a location modeled off New York's Times Square. ![]() Now concept artist Jaime Jones has taken to Twitter and shared some early concept art paintings he developed in collaboration with production designer James Chinlund. Related: The Batman's Gotham Compared To Nolan's & Burton's Versions Much like Tim Burton's Gotham, Reeves's version of the city was far more than just a setting and more of a character in its own right. Despite these setbacks, the finished result was a grime-filled city that perfectly suited the film's detective noir aesthetic. Originally filmed on location throughout London, Glasgow, and Liverpool, some exterior scenes were later shot in Chicago following COVID-19 delays and the production's eventual relocation back to US soil. With Matt Reeves's latest reinvention of the Batman franchise, the Gotham featured on-screen returned to a much more imposing location than that featured in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.
